The four seasons of Merino.
Wool is the undisputed queen of winter, but it is worth remembering about it throughout the rest of the year.
With the end of winter, we say goodbye to thick woolen sweaters, coats or overalls and hide them in the wardrobes, to remember about them only with the arrival of the first cool evenings. Wool (both woven and knitted woolen fabrics) will remain an excellent companion at the beginning of spring, when lighter woolen cardigans, trench coats and jackets will not only warm us perfectly during the morning chills, but will also provide a wonderful thermal balance with the arrival of a sunny day. When spring chases away winter, sheep's fleece will once again win over polyester. In spring, a polyester jacket, in which we froze in the morning, will turn into a sauna in the afternoon, while a woolen wardrobe will provide thermal comfort from a cool morning to a warm spring afternoon.
Welcoming summer, we say goodbye to woolen jackets and sweaters, but this will not mean the end of the wool season, because wool in summer is an absolutely unique story! It is in the warmest months of the year that we have the chance to fully appreciate the thermoregulatory and photoprotective properties of merino fleece yarn, because lightweight fabrics and knits made of this special type of wool turn out to be magical during the heat.
Merino wool, like a true Super Hero, is the most effective of all natural fibers in blocking both UVA and UVB solar radiation. Its UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) exceeds 50, which means that for every 50 units of light that reach its surface, it will let through at most 1 unit!
Wool owes its thermoregulatory properties to its specific structure, which traps air pockets among its fibers. Thanks to this, this almost magical yarn provides good thermal insulation, and thus protects us not only from the cold, but also from the heat. But that's not all, because thanks to its ability to absorb and quickly evaporate moisture, it guarantees additional comfort during hot weather - because after all, when we miss summer, we don't miss clothes damp with sweat. This, on the other hand, reminds me that our hero, hero, true brave, simply wool :-) hides another superpower - it poorly absorbs odors and quickly evaporates them.
Of course, no clothing will work like an air conditioner and make the heat imperceptible, but due to its super powers, clothing made of merino wool will certainly be an excellent choice next to linen, silk or viscose, which are more commonly associated with the summer season.
If your heart yearns for wool, but you still don't have an idea for a woolen spring/summer wardrobe, let me be your guide. Any wool flannel will be a brilliant choice for lighter spring jackets or trench coats, while suit wools (including printed ones), especially merino, will be a great idea for spring trousers, summer shorts, dresses and skirts with a more formal "look". Thin wool fabrics will be the perfect material for beautiful and airy summer dresses, blouses and skirts, or even scarves to cover your shoulders on a summer evening, while merino wool knits are perfect for T-shirts, blouses, cloud-light cardigans or irreplaceable summer clothes and accessories for the little ones.
So what? Do you already have an idea for your summer styling? :-)
